Born in the kitchen of a tiny West London flat during the Covid lockdowns, Matt Burgess, a London-based New Zealand Māori chef and food consultant, created Blak Ember Sauce to brighten up meals for local families who were isolating at home. His sauces became a way to bring comfort and excitement to home-cooked dishes during challenging times.
